ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

College of Emerging Sciences, Chennai

Most colleges build a course, then look for students to fill it. The College of Emerging Sciences was built the other way around. Every programme here exists because an industry, a hospital, a lab, or a field somewhere in India is already short of trained people and started from that gap rather than from an existing syllabus.

That’s why the eleven programmes on offer sit across such different territory. Some train the allied healthcare specialists’ hospitals can’t staff fast enough, cardiac technologists, dialysis technologists, genetic counsellors. Others build the researchers working at the edge of what medicine can currently do, in nanoscience, regenerative medicine, and coastal pharmaceutical discovery. A third group trains people to apply artificial intelligence where it’s needed most urgently right now, in agriculture, in hospitals, and in business decision-making. And two programmes address gaps the country still doesn’t train enough people for at all: women’s health across every life stage, and food and nutrition science built for a health-conscious, regulation-heavy market.
None of these were designed as electives bolted onto older departments. Each one runs its own curriculum, its own laboratory access, and its own clinical or field placements, while sharing the university’s wider research infrastructure, its Research and Development Cell, MSME Incubation Centre, and Ministry of Education-recognized Innovation Cell. Students get the specificity of a focused programme and the backing of a much larger university at the same time.
